Camp Douglas, WI
Elgin, IL
Camp Douglas is a junction town on the former Milwaukee Road's main line, now part of successor Canadian Pacific. The Chicago & North Western also passed through here, site where the Twin Cities 400 and Dakota 400 once ran, while the MILW had the Hiawathas and the Pioneer Limited. The south end of the route was abandoned in the 1980s, while the north end to Wyeville eventually sat dormant. After the Union Pacific took over the C&NW in 1995, the UP eventually abandoned this portion too. Today the Canadian Pacific is the only player in town, with a main track and a passing siding, and Amtrak's Empire Builder the only passenger services. Think of the lively activity that used to be here.
